You’re a Lebanese medical graduate and want to work in Lebanon. In order to do so, you need to become a member of the Lebanese order of physicians (LOP). This article will show you the steps needed to obtain a medical license in Lebanon. The process can be divided into two general phases, first you need to obtain a “Permission of Practice in Lebanon (PPL)” (إذن مزاولة مهنة), second you need to register at the LOP.
Requirements for PPL (إذن مزاولة المهنى):
1- Individual Civil Registry Record (إخراج قيد أصلي), issued within the last 6 months.
2- Application for criminal record (سجل عدلي), issued within the last 3 months.
3- Photos, passport size, certified by the mayor (total of 4)
4- Copies of the high school baccalaureate.
5- Copies of BS transcripts (all BS transcripts, for example if you did your BS in various universities you need to bring transcripts from all the universities).
6- Copies of BS Diplomas (all BS diplomas, if you did multiple BS)
7- Copies of MD transcript
8- Copies of MD diploma
9- MD diploma equivalence (Generally provided by the university you graduated MD from)
10- Copy of Colloquium certificate

You should bring all these documents to the Ministry of Education at UNESCO (location) in order to get them stamped. You will be given a receipt and be told when to come back to collect them.
After collecting your stamped documents from the Ministry of Education, you have to submit them to the Ministry of Health (location).
You can do this in person or have the kind souls over at Liban post send them over for you. Again, you’ll receive a receipt and a month or so later you can go collect your Permission of Practice in Lebanon (PPL) from the Ministry of Health.
Waiting times will vary depending on a number of important factors such as do we have a minister of health at the time? Can he be bothered to whip out his pen and make the hand movements necessary to sign the PPL?
Submit the PPL to the Lebanese Order of Physicians (LOP):
When you finally do get your PPL, you have to submit it along with all the other stamped documents to the LOP. Unfortunately, you have to do this in person. You can submit your documents at any LOP branch (Beirut or Tripoli). Make sure to select which branch you want to join because if you don’t specify, you’ll be allocated by default based on your place of birth. The registration fee is around 4,885,000 LBP (subject to change) for non-specialists.
Et voila, you are now effectively a member of the LOP. You also have to pay a yearly fee of 610000 LBP (subject to change) which will be part of your pension later on. Figure 1 shows details regarding the membership fees.
